Returning for a third year, with an awesome new 7km route. Ideal for beginners and elite ultra runners.
This event is being organised with current social distancing and health & safety information in mind, but please be aware that this is subject to change as we follow constantly updating guidance from the government.
Social Distancing Rules
The unique nature of Lone Wolf means we can run this event with social distancing, without losing any of the excitement, making it one of only a few that are running this year. Expert and novice runners all welcome.
We have developed a socially distanced start and finish line
There will be no catering on site (but there is a cafe near by). You will need to be self sufficient with food, and there’s plenty of space for cooking on a camping stove should you need hot food.
Toilets will be shared and cleaned after every hour.
Registration on the day of the event will be from 8.30-9.45 and you will need a face mask & hand sanitiser.
Unfortunately spectators will not be allowed at the start/finish line, and toilet facilities are not available for spectators. Only runners will be able to use the facilities. There are many lovely, wide open spaces such as beside the river and in the woods that you can spectate from and make your little base!
As the parking is beside the Start/Finish line, your vehicle can be used as a base/kit/food store. There is also a meadow beside the car park that you can pitch a small tent in to use as a base instead.
What is Lone Wolf?
It's an off-road running event, based on the Dartington Estate. The course is 7 k of undulating terrain, taking in the natural beauty of the Dart Valley and Dartington Woodlands. Once the event starts, runners will have one hour to complete the course. Not so hard right? That's where it gets interesting. Everyone who makes it round in time, will have whatever time left in the hour to rest and get ready, then at the start of the next hour, you'll have to set off again to complete the course a second time...then a third...then a fourth...and every hour until we have but a single runner left - the Lone Wolf.
Maximum 24 hours , with the possibility of do 100 miles in 24 hours if there are a few runners left on the last lap it will be a race

Rules
Runners must be ready at the line at the start of each hour, if you're still finishing the previous lap, or you're too tired to go on, that's the end of your run.
If there's a tie on the number of laps completed by the final runners, the winner will be the first runner over the line. Eg 1. there are two runners left at the start of lap 8, after the hour neither has completed the loop in the allowed time limit - the first one back over the line is the winner. Eg 2. there are three runners starting lap 7, one makes it back inside the hour time limit, but the others aren't back until after the hour passes. The successful runner is the winner.
There will be one Male and one Female Lone Wolf winner
Whilst we hope (and anticipate!) the race to go on for many laps, we reserve the right to squeeze the competition at the later stages if the Wolf Pack can't be separated - just be prepared should you find yourself in the later stages.
Be respectful of other runners and members of the public who may be using the area.
Have an awesome time - best howls will be rewarded with high fives!
Kit
Given the format of the race, there is the possibility that early on whilst you're still fresh, you'll have some waiting time between round starts. We'd recommend bringing a layer to throw on to keep warm during your rest periods. Additionally, if you're a likely contender for the long haul, we estimate to be losing light around 8pm - that's 10 laps into the race. If you think you'll still be going, you will need to bring a headtorch!

Risks
The race predominantly takes place on off-road terrain, which has inherent risks attached. These can include loose ground, slippery surfaces (roots etc) and multiple trip hazards. We strongly advise the use of trail running shoes.
Large parts of the course is in dense woodland areas, on top of the hazards outlined above, you may also encounter low hanging branches, fallen trees/branches and other such obstacles. We will have done our best to clear the course, but runners are advised to be highly aware of such hazards, especially during the early laps of the race, and after it gets dark later in to the race. It would be great to share any found hazards with fellow runners at the end of each lap!
Bad weather such as rain, fog, sleet, wind etc. can make terrain more hazardous, and runners should be prepared to run whatever the weather.
